Back pain - Overview

Back pain is one of the most common medical problems these days. More than 70 percent of adults experience low back pain at some point of time in their life. Mostly back pain goes away in a few days without any treatment, but many people suffer from chronic back pain. It can range from a constant ache to a sudden, sharp and intense pain that makes it hard for a person to move.

Back pain can be caused by a variety of problems like being sedentary, lifting something which is too heavy, an injury to the spine, bending awkwardly and so on.

Lower Back Pain: Lower Back Pain is the common type of back pain and it can radiate from the lower back to the legs or to other parts of the body. It can last from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the intensity of the pain. In most cases, the pain is because of the muscle or joint strain and injury. In other cases, it can be a result of conditions affecting the bony lumbar spine, spinal cord and nerves, discs between the vertebrae, ligaments around the spine and discs, muscles of the lower back and the skin covering the lumbar area.
