Tonsillitis - Overview


Tonsillitis is the inflammation of tonsils. Tonsils are the two lymph nodes located on each side of the back of your throat. It's usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Most tonsillitis are because of viral infection where as when caused by a bacteria named group A streptococcus, its referred as strep throat.

Tonsillitis frequently affects children, teens and young adults. Most tonsillitis will clear on their own in a few days without any medications.

Do you know?  In young children, tonsils help to fight germs and act as a barrier against infection.
